How to Add, Install or Load Brushes to Adobe Photoshop CS5

By on March 21, 2012 — Updated on June 12, 2012

Adding brushes to Photoshop CS5 has no difference with how brushes are loaded in the older versions of this application. In fact, your collection of Photoshop brushes which you were using in your old version of Adobe Photoshop are still useful and can be installed or loaded in Photoshop CS5.1 like what I used as an example in this tutorial.

Please don’t be confuse if I use ‘load’ instead of ‘add’ or ‘install’ because the term that Adobe Photoshop uses is ‘load’. But ‘install’ is fine anyway. ^_^

1. Save Your Brush Preset at Desktop

Make sure that you know where did save your Photoshop brush set. To make it easy for you to locate your brush, I recommend that you save it on your desktop temporarily.

2. Install (load / add) Your Brush Preset

Open your Adobe Photoshop CS5 then select the Brush Tool on the Tool Panel or hit ‘B’ on your keyboard.

At the Control Panel, click to open the Brush Preset picker (1) then click the collapse button (2) at the upper right of the Brush Preset picker window and click the Load Brushes (3).

3. Find Your Brush Preset at Desktop

When the Load window pops up, locate the brush which you want ti install in your desktop or wherever you have saved it. Click to select your Photoshop brush (4) then click the Load button (5). Your brush now is installing.

4. Check Your New Photoshop CS5 Brushes

The Load window will automatically close after your brush has successfully installed. You can find your new loaded brushes in the last part of the Brush Preset picker window.

Enjoy adding your brushes. Godspeed!

I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed on my laptop now. I also use photoshop often, so these brush additions would be a really great add-on for me. Thanks for sharing! =)
